It's been a while since I've done a BG painting... feeling a little rusty, but I don't think I've lost all my skills.

Feels a little classic Disney-ish or something.

Couple more...

I've also been working on some stuff (backgound paintings) for a Nick Jr. show in development... maybe I'll post that soon.

I'm baaack.

I'm done with posters & back to my old job at Independent Study.  So this blog will go back to quantity over quality.  yay!
For my 1st assignment they wanted me to add on to the first ever course I worked on (a year & a half ago).  So if you look at the first post ever on this blog you'll see more of the same colored brothers & sisters of these.

*I'll have to put some of my own fun stuff I'm working on one of these days...

Gone Missing

Play poster I'm working on.  The title goes in the bubble.

This was actually a redo.  If you go back a couple of posts you'll see the 1st one that's more cartoony... turns out they didn't want that.

Tooty Tutte

Here's a poster I did for an opera called Cosi fan Tutte (say it, "Kozy fawn tooty").
It's about a couple of dude-soldiers that talk about how faithful their gals are.  An older, wiser gentleman-stranger steps in and says "not uh"... and bets them that their girls are like any other girls--  unfaithfully lame.  The dude-soldiers say they are going off to battle, but really come back as foreign moustachioed lovers.  They go after each other's ladies, who resist, but eventually give in... even accepting marriage proposals!  Older gentlemen-strangers are always right.  The men go back to their original gals, they all have a big laugh & no harm done, right?

Gone Missing

This is a two-part play where the dialogue is all taken from interviews with people on the street about losing something & how the things we lose and gain in life make us who we are.  Sounds fun & it's fun working on the poster.

Here's how it turned out.

I went with a combo of the light & dark, but I still had to keep the characters' colors light to accentuate the Hirschfeld-style line.  It doesn't make them read from a distance as well, but it will pay off in large poster form when you can look at the whimsical details of the line better.  There's also some fun patterns in the clothes that you probably can't really see... and the sun's not registering as a different color than the clouds for some reason (it does on my work computer).  Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it.

Which do you prefer?  Lighter or darker?  Other critiques welcome.
